Colour Star
Colour Star by Claire Conroy takes its title from Bauhaus teacher Johannes Itten’s colour harmony diagram, Color Star. Inspired by investigations into colour theory by both Itten and Josef Albers, Conroy has undertaken an exploration of colour within her black and white photographic work.
The images of loved ones and cherished objects are hand-dyed pinhole photographs evoking specific moods and feelings, interactions of colour & visual resonance.
The collages explore colour combinations & shape using hand-dyed photographic paper from the artist’s darkroom practice.
This series of contemporary photographs and collages has been made through hand-built cameras, including a caravan pinhole camera, exposing directly onto photographic paper, making large-scale negatives and processed in the caravan mobile studio darkroom.
