My Tragedienne

2023 - Rogue Pop Up Gallery, Redfern

My Tragedienne places a female protagonist within a mysterious, cinematic world of staircases, ruins, interiors and landscapes. Seen through the soft and reversed effects of pinhole photography, she becomes an enigmatic figure rather than a recognisable portrait.

The exhibition brings together newly made works with photographs and materials from my earlier analogue practice. Collages made from accumulated darkroom materials sit alongside new large-scale pinhole photographs, creating a dialogue between past and present. The act of revisiting and reworking these materials became a way of thinking about memory — how the past is carried forward, reconstructed and transformed in the present.

The exhibition title draws on Hannah Höch’s 1924 collage The Tragedienne, and explores photography’s relationship to memory, history and imagination. Through slow and experimental photographic processes, images and materials are reassembled into a narrative that moves between what has been, what is remembered and what might be imagined.
