2006 - Mori Galley

Lightspeed was my first large-scale photographic project, transforming a two-tonne truck into a functioning pinhole camera. I travelled across Sydney for seven days, making long-exposure photographs from within the truck and using the city as both subject and site of the work.

The resulting photographs were industrial in scale, commanding attention through their physical presence, 1.3 m x 4 m. Their monumental scale reflects on the impact of Sydney’s urban environment on the natural landscape.

The scale of the camera also made the act of photographing physical and performative. Rather than carrying a camera through the city, I travelled through it inside the camera, turning the truck into a mobile photographic instrument and studio.
